We are a sustainable grower, we conserve water, do not use harsh chemicals, and are herbicide and pesticide free. We are patient with our plants and do not overwater or over fertilize them. Our growth medium is custom blended to replicate the plants natural habitat and all of our stock is grown outdoors. All of this helps ensure that our plants are adapted well to the central Florida hardiness zones and resistant to transplant shock.
Mission Statement
At Barefoot Forest Nursery, we grow for Florida. We believe Florida Native and Florida Friendly plants are not only beneficial in our personal landscapes, but also hold tremendous value for our natural lands and wildlife. From back yards to restoration projects, Barefoot Forest Nursery is committed to growing what you need.
About Nicole
Growing up in Ohio, Nicole spent most of her time outdoors exploring and hiking. Natural lands and wildlife have been a passion of hers from an early age. This passion continued to grow when she moved to Florida in 1996. Nicole became involved with groups such as Oklawaha Valley Audubon Society (OVAS) and Florida Native Plant Society (FNPS) and frequently visited wildlife rehabilitation centers and sanctuaries. Throughout her membership with these groups, she began to realize how much our human and wildlife populations depend on Florida’s natural flora. In recognizing such a dependency, she decided to open Barefoot Forest Nursery in April of 2019. Her hope is to make Florida Native and Florida Friendly plants as accessible as possible for projects small or large.
